Philosophy as the embodiment of a sublime and heroic humanism

The modern philosophy develops and deepens conception about dialectics of life and at the same time improves dialectic style of thinking which especially full and completely was developed by Plato, Hegel and Marx.
Unlike the main tendency of the last epoch, opposing materialism and idealism, the modern philosophy places emphasis on their indissoluble communication and interaction. In the theory of knowledge it considers mind, rational, and irrational, intuitive discernments and experiences. The major tendency in modern philosophy is the principle «both that, and it». Neopositivism and hermeneutics, in the 20century sharply opposing each other "explanation" and "understanding", today more and more approach, accept and prove position:« Both explanation, and understanding ». The understanding anticipates explanation by harmonization with subjective plan of the author; the understanding accompanies explanation because it forms image of inter subjective communication, understanding finishes explanation as pulls together the interpreter and the text, overcoming their cultural distance. Explain more, to understand better, understand more deeply and more accurately, to explain more clearly.
During previous periods of history human thought historically, but also nowadays, in 21st century, the historical approach is necessary. But difference from the past, of course, exists. Today by consideration of genesis of the phenomena the philosophy also considers structure of these phenomena. Today philosophy studies history not as causally caused process - but also as active, creative activity of people. Anyway at the analysis and estimation of people’s activity it is necessary to consider causality and freedom as because the history of social life there are spheres which development can't be expected, it is impossible to predict, proceeding only from principle of causality; they are - business and result of human freedom. Perhaps, it also is the peculiar feature of the 21st century’s thinking when the accent is transferred on integrity and freedom of the person.
And if in the 20th century as a whole, despite certain reservations, the belief in progress dominated, presently the unconditional belief in progress is already impossible. This belief is being destroyed by ambivalent character of development of science and technics, antidemocratic, authoritative relapses in the policy, abatement in spiritually-cultural sphere.
If in the 19-20th centuries many philosophers, scientist, politicians connected progress, as a rule, with one class (with bourgeoisie, and then proletariat), with one region (Western Europe) today progress is more and more perceived as progress of all mankind.
In the last century progress to a great extent was connected with economy, science and technics. Presently people admit that it depends on interaction of all spheres of public life (economy, policy, moral and culture). Especially it depends on moral and culture.
In ХIХ century Europe predominated in the world. The First World War has undermined this domination of Europe. The Second World War has put an end to domination of Europe, has led to domination of two super states – the USA and the USSR. Today, after destruction of the USSR, there is only one super state – the USA, applying, as a matter of fact, on world supremacy. But today's reality is that: attempt of establishment of domination of one country is fraught with war, and war will lead mankind to self-destruction. Comprehension of self-destruction danger, certainly, already promotes the peace statement. However the original peace is based on unity of universal cultural wealth, on the uniform morality uniting mankind. Unfortunately, we are too far from this. But achievement of it is necessary, otherwise there will a catastrophe.
Debt of thinkers, debt of philosophers is – to wake up conscience, sense of responsibility of people for all events in the world.
Today the person should think globally. He should realize responsibility for the world surrounding him, should harmonize relations with nature, should understand that the civilization acts as organic unity of nature and society. He should realize that mankind, despite the state, national, social, cultural distinctions is united; as kind of especially organized life, as Homo sapiens, that the general, uniform concept of survival, joint efforts of people to rescue and develop the nature, culture, life today are necessary.
Philosophy should teach people to understand this problem, this purpose. It should revive in the person’s Cosmo centric sight at natural and social world; again teach him to submit to Logos as to universal necessity. Coevolution of human and biosphere, harmonious development and dialogue of cultures should become intellectual and moral dominant of modern community.
Philosophy always was and always will be the teacher of life inducing to any kind of virtue; its task is education of the person, philosophy is a science and art of how to live correctly and thereof – fearlessly point at society’s defects.
The real philosophers were tutors of mankind, always lived public interests. Socrates, in particular, always was where youth and other people were. In conversations with people he always brought up the most important questions of life: that there is justice and injustice, beauty and disgrace, devotion and godlessness, prudence and bravery, the state and its governors etc. Opposing "ignorance" to knowledge of sophists, Socrates gave to the arguments huge force of persuasiveness; he became, on the one hand, the most popular, on another hand, - the most hated person of Athens of the time.
The blessing and good always is the blessing and good and consequently they are always true, are always necessary, and are always useful. Knowledge, which philosophy teaches isn't «pure knowledge». It is practically based upon consciousness, upon struggle with itself and others, on knowledge and estimation of the surrounding validity from position of good and harm. This knowledge is – unity of reason and will; in effect, it is practical reason, these are our aspirations, our purposes.
Philosophy staying in full force, never acts as something inert, especially contemplate, as passive and already complete unity of knowledge. Generated by social movement, it represents movement and stretches the influence on the future.
Undoubtedly, philosophy is practical; undoubtedly, it is – the epoch seized by thought. And, nevertheless, it is important not to simplify communication of philosophy and practice, philosophical ideas and those interests or other classes or social groups. It can lead into vulgarization of philosophical ideas. Distinctions and contrast of philosophical doctrines quite often can act not only as contrast of class views, but also as various steps of knowledge and objective truth comprehension.
But in any case philosophy should be effective. Philosophy and philosophers should protect and confirm high intellectual values. For the sake of intellectual values statement, honor protection and honor of other people philosopher should operate openly. It should be uncompromising in protection of: life, freedom, dignity– above all. Philosophy urged to confirm good, to struggle with harm both in us, and in out of us. Philosophy should awake people at dawn, like peals of thunder and shine of lightning, it should announce approach of the thunder-storm clearing and freshening life.
The major problem of modern philosophy – to explain that today's situation of spiritual decline is not an accident, but an objective process that is in many ways caused by people’s activity.
Philosophers should explain persistently and consistently that today’s progress in science and technology is organically connected with problem of people’s responsibility, that science; technology and ethics are internally interconnected. Those who personify scientific and technical progress are responsible for what science and technics bring to mankind. Without responsibility today there won't be neither the world, nor progress.
Outstanding thinkers already in the middle of the 20 century with alarm warned that people’s way of life is more and more characterized by tendency to mechanics, to transformation of person into function of techno-bureaucratic system. Today this tendency is shown even with bigger force. The modern human, really possessing superhuman force, becomes spiritually poorer, more stale, estranged. Those who believe that if they have something that «costs more », than they have more have feeling of increasing antagonism in relation to all other people, consider all as the competitors, envy those who have more, are afraid of those who have less.
This attitude of all against all inevitably stimulates social split and social struggle in society, and internationally – conflicts and war between the people. The avidity and cruelty exclude the world and good-neighborhood.
Philosophers with special persistence should help people to understand that political ambitions of those who are in power conceal danger of totalitarianism, threaten the person and those values which express its essence, and first of all to its freedom. Therefore today formation of civil society, lawful state consolidation, search of counterbalances to all links of power are so important, but it is even more important to find a way to counterbalance political structures by constitution guaranteed social rights for worthy, happy life.
But the most important thing: philosophy should help people to find values and ideals giving high sense to their life. Considering that in the 21 century insistent problem of philosophy is formation and education of human responsible for all event in the world, for destinies, for survival of mankind and thereupon – the statement and protection of absolute universal values, philosophy increasingly acts also as conductor of a raised and sublime humanism.
The true sensation of completeness of life doesn't consist of satisfaction of achievement of all earthly blessings; it can't be and can't be compared to sensation of «rest in the end of way». Required «abundance time» actually is deadlock just because people don't know how to update the desires. Philosophy should resist constantly and persistently to this sort of tendencies in people’s lifes. It should stay constantly in search of own absoluteness and universality. It always should consider development of the person, it’s value and freedom as the prime target.
Goethe in due time underlined that all epochs of human history in which the belief in absolute values, in absolute sense reigned, were substantially brilliant and productive.
But what means: absolute values? Are they possible? What is the way to them? The philosophy learns that the true is life.
For antiquity and the Middle Ages life always was true. Mind, Logos penetrated all life; the human mind was part of space mind, the person in thoughts followed the life. As to concrete things including created by the humans they in feelings and consciousness of antique people and people of the Middle Ages appeared something casual, passing, their knowledge was only craft, but not the valid knowledge, not knowledge of the life. The modern person tempted in technologies, giving illusion of mastering by life springs, has forgotten to comprehend real, to understand true of life.
Russian philosophers always underlined that without assumption of the transcendental purpose the sense of life, sense of human life, human history is incomprehensible. True and sense should prevail over nonsense, good over harm in the world and for that superhuman reasonable-good beginning is required. The reasonable - good beginning, as Vl. S. Solovev considered, is trinity of good, true and beauty. As a matter of fact, this thesis is absolutely not obsolete. The unity of good, true and beauty causes balance of the whole, space and all its parts, mutual solidarity of people, unity "common to all mankind". In any case today people should comprehend the modern validity from these positions eternal and consequently absolute values: Trues, Good and Beauty, their indissoluble unity.
Here again there is nothing impossible. After all at all times people appealed to virtue, wisdom, good, respected such human qualities, as nobleness, sympathy, fidelity to friendship, service to common cause. Appreciated beauty, music, literature, art. And this all is in the organic unity display of True, Good and Beauty.
Certainly, in modern conditions to be the blind optimist is silly, but to be the pessimist - even more ridiculously. The optimist considers that it is possible to improve life, the pessimist sees only bad, he sees harm, but doesn't know, how to eliminate it.
The modern philosophy should bear in itself optimistic spirit. Certainly, philosophers are against the thesis, as if «all to the best in this best of the worlds». Philosophy should bear to people reasonable optimism, educated, critical and constructive.
Philosophy and philosophers should be tolerant to all searches of answers to the burning questions exciting the person and mankind. Tolerance is not expressed like: «I will not disturb, speak», and: «I respect your opinion» … the claim to answer is in the spirit of: yes – isn't present, black - white, or-or, this or that – not philosophical.
Answers on exciting the person and mankind questions, certainly, can differ from each other. Important one: in any case in the center of modern philosophy, as well as all philosophy in its stories, - there should be human, sense of his life, his advantage, his freedom, his ups and downs.
The modern philosophy should recreate firm kernel of such moral values as equality, equality of chances, responsible relation to freedom, respect to others, protection of the weak, solidarity, etc. Through finding of these higher moral values arise such psychological and ideological installations which predetermine concrete actions of people in the spirit of humanism, consolidations of their generality, maintenance of the world and mankind development in a huge scale.
One of the main preconditions of that it can be reached is interdependence of the world growing today, various cultures and the civilizations, causing alignment in the methodological rights of various principles of the world development. It all demands from philosophers in the course of world knowledge to consider the strict scientific analysis and intuition, the formal logic and nonlinear thinking, free-thinking and religiousness, belief in forward progress and belief in oscillatory, cyclic movement of history.
Many ideas of European, Chinese and Indian philosophy, and also philosophical ideas of other people and regions should enter universal philosophical methodology. The unilateral eminence of European philosophy is incorrect and unfair. It is necessary to investigate equally objective and subjective reality, all aspects of life: informative, moral, religious, aesthetic, it is necessary to create the universal and co-ordinated sight at world as a unit. Only having resolved this problem, the world philosophy can become the tutor of all people in all countries; unite their efforts to construct fair society.
This problem, this purpose once again confirms eternal and not passing character of philosophy. And the person, the philosopher participating in the decision of this problem, finds huge vital support in great cultural wealth of philosophy; it becomes not only wiser, but also happier, his life is filled with intellectual and moral pleasure. And in it the basis and philosophy prospect is also covered.
And, of course, basic value for philosophical development, for increase of efficiency of philosophical researches has creation of creative atmosphere, extensive discussions and discussions in the philosophical environment. Philosophy is competition of ideas in which victory will be gained by those ideas which reflect objective truth more deeply, more precisely, more correctly and open for realization of their new possibilities. Essence of original philosophy is – creative thinking and innovation realization of problems.
Modern social development is characterized by huge and fast changes covering all spheres of human life and activity. Philosophers should study them constantly. Finally the main thing, that plays outstanding role and philosophy place in the modern world, is that it serves as the tool of correct orientation in the most difficult and inconsistent events of epoch, allows to understand them and to give correct estimation from social and moral progress point of view.
And of course, philosophy at all doesn't use haughtily to judge the outstanding position of other directions in spiritual life. Philosophy is against sectarianism. It is convinced: progress can be under construction only on the basis of mastering of all progressive gains of human culture.
Our time demands sharp integration of theoretical activity, deep enrichment of philosophy. Today on new coil of history when the mankind has new dilemma: to be or not to be the human civilization, the life on earth, it is necessary to clear away for courageous fundamental breaks in society science, to develop deep, perspective philosophical ideas and concepts providing steady social dynamism, all-round physical and spiritual perfection of human.
